Director and CFO

As an experienced Finance Director and Financial Controller in businesses within retail, beauty, consumer goods, FMCG, services and aviation, Robyn has had over 20 years of experience within finance. She has the runs on the board helping businesses achieve their goals, dramatically improve profitability, and enhance their working capital management. With her financial management, these businesses have grown rapidly, outperformed their competitors and seen extraordinary results.

 

Formerly from Sydney, Robyn has called the Gold Coast home for over 6 years now. She has a husband, 2 beautiful daughters, 2 stepdaughters and is a committed Christian.

 

Her top finance tips are: Focus on good leadership. It’s not so much a finance tip as something she has noticed as a key differentiator between businesses than run well, are successful, and have a good culture vs those that don’t / are not. Leaders have such a strong impact on the vision, culture, values, and smooth operating rhythm of a business (or not). Things have a way of trickling down from the top.

 

Secondly, data! Use financial data (in contrast to emotions, gut-feeling or external pressure) to make business decisions. Knowledge is power and puts you in control.

 

JANAIA

ACCOUNTANT

Janaia initially immersed herself in the workforce in the hospitality industry as a qualified chef. However deep down she always knew there was something more out there for her (despite her love of cooking). Numbers were always her forte and after an initial break at a great global company as an assistant accountant, she knew this was her thing. Since then, she has worked in finance teams for international online retail brands and met Robyn along the way. She is clever, intuitive, process and efficiency driven and is a natural with systems. She loves an excel challenge and feels there is nothing more satisfying than a well-built spreadsheet! 

Her number 1 finance tip is and always will be to have a strong cashflow management system / tool. Accurately forecasting cashflow for the next 3-months is something Robyn has taught us from the beginning. This is the 1 thing that if you get wrong you will close your doors. Your next BAS, super payment or next large stock order is always only around the corner and we will help you be prepared and never “worry” about these again.

KASEY

Kasey has built a record of consistent achievement across a diverse career in sales, marketing, operations, project management and finance within both start-up and growth organisations. Kasey graduated with a Bachelor of Business degree in 2007 and quickly rose to become a General Manager in the logistics and supply chain industry where she was responsible for blue-chip clients including: Unilever, Kellogg’s, L’Oreal and Toyota.

With 15 years in senior management, Kasey can formulate strategic plans, prepare financial reports, negotiate contracts, foster positive working relationships, and deliver organisational changes to optimise the bottom line.

Kasey joined Carter Group in 2021 and her passion is to exceed client expectations, collaborate with a communicative style and deliver financial efficiencies to help our clients to sleep at night.

Her top finance tip is to “Always keep an up-to-date cashflow as a measure of the health of your business”.

 

Kristy Sayburn

Accounts Officer

Kristy’s career began in administration, but her passion for finance led her to pursue bookkeeping, earning her qualifications through night school. With extensive experience ranging from startup businesses to the largest hairdressing franchises across Australia, New Zealand, and the UK, Kristy brings a wealth of knowledge to her role. 

Since joining Carter Group in 2023, she has excelled in building strong relationships with clients and suppliers, taking great satisfaction in balancing end-of-month statements and accounts. 

Outside of work, Kristy enjoys outdoor adventures with her daughter and husband. 

Her top financial tip is to maintain meticulous financial records and to set aside funds for BAS.

NATHAN

Assistant Accountant

Originally from the scenic west coast of Scotland, Nathan has recently embraced the atmosphere of the Gold Coast as his new home. After completing his studies at Hillcrest Christian College, where he earned a Certificate III in Business, Nathan is now expanding his knowledge and skills at Carter Group CFO while pursuing further training and qualifications.

 

At Carter Group CFO, Nathan’s love for Excel and IT is put to good use as he upgrades spreadsheets and enhances the formulas used as well as assisting the team with their technical challenges. His role encompasses a broad range of responsibilities, including managing accounts payable and receivable, updating weekly cashflows and sales data, as well as supporting the team with month-end financial reporting. Nathan’s ability to efficiently and clearly communicate with both the team and clients ensures effective collaboration and strong professional relationships.

 

Nathan’s willingness to learn and enthusiasm for continuous improvement led him to achieve the Certified Xero Advisor status, developing his knowledge throughout Xero, our accounting software.

 

His financial tip is to have a well-structured and organised accounting platform to ensure efficiency and accuracy when reporting.

 

With a long-standing passion for finance, Nathan is dedicated to building a successful career in this field. His proactive approach, eagerness to learn, and commitment to excellence make him an asset to the team.

Alex Kovac

Payroll and Accounts

Originally from the construction industry, I knew I would end up in the finance department one day, because I always took a keen interest on the economy, stock markets and interest rates. My finger has always been on the pulse, and I believe it’s this passion that will enable me to help you achieve greater results for your company. Knowledge is power!

I live on the Gold coast and I am happily married with 2 daughters and 2 step daughters. I am a dedicated Christian and I love my fishing. My top tip is to always work to a budget. Whether it’s buying groceries, planning a holiday, or running your business, if you plan ahead, you can minimise any surprises when you have a look at that bank account. There’s nothing worse than checking your account and thinking there should be more money than the current balance.

If you fail to plan, you plan to fail.

Phoebe Townsend

Trainee

Phoebe is a dedicated year 11 student at Hillcrest Christian College, where she is diligently pursuing a Certificate III in Business and a Diploma in Business. Her commitment to academic excellence is matched by her active engagement in the school, taking on various leadership roles and opportunities. Additionally, Phoebe is accelerated in her business studies, currently undertaking Year 12 business. She is actively engaged in her school’s netball team and works at The Cheesecake Shop. Driven by her passion for numbers and finance and her problem-solving mindset, Phoebe aspires to build a successful career in the industry. 

Phoebe is undertaking a Traineeship with Carter Group CFO. 

David Barker

Financial Controller and Tax Agent

Dave is an experienced Chartered Accountant with over 20 years in public practice accounting specialising in small business within a variety of industries including wholesale, trades, medical, retail, farming, medical and not for profit entities. Before moving to Carter Group he was the financial controller for an independent caravan park group. Dave is a registered tax agent and enjoys working alongside clients to resolve any pain points in their business and to help clients reach their financial goals. 
 
Residing in the Northern Illawarra NSW with his wife and three daughters, Dave enjoys surfing, snowboarding, playing guitar and being involved in his local church. His financial tip is to seek professional advice before making decisions, especially before the end of the financial year.
